Molly Hatchet - Devil’s Canyon

Friday, August 31st, 2007

Once upon a time there was a Southern Rock kind of band called Molly Hatchet. They were a good group of guys turning out solid, decent tunes. You know, the kind of tunes you used to hear and made you just want to get up and move. Along they way, these guys had a fair number of hits and things were going along smooth. Alas, Molly Hatchet ceased to be, and this was a sad day. But! Later, they came back together and put out a nice album called Devil’s Canyon. The album, as a whole, didn’t have a lot going for it…

…except…

An acoustic version of Dreams I’ll Never See. We here at Radio Free David would be completely remiss if we didn’t spin that for you. And so we are. (Of course, Molly Hatchet disbanded not too long after this, but at least we have this version!)

Thanks to Eric for sharing this find with us!

As always,
Enjoy

Amy Cooper - Mirrors

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

Notorious Liz and the wonderful folks at Retone Records have kept the hot music rolling… and today they bring us Amy Cooper and her new album Mirrors.

Take some sultry, some sexy, some rock’n'roll, add a dash of spice and a dash of sugar, toss in some soul catching music and you have a recipe for a genuine musical talent, or Amy Cooper as she is more commonly known. Her new album Mirrors is full of raw (and polished, too!) emotion, energy and grit. In other words, we really enjoy it.

We’re featuring her new single Back Together, but because we like them, we’ve also added in Tonight We Fly and Undertow. We love the depth and dimension Amy brings to our playlist and Mirrors is a must-play album for all of us.

As always,
Enjoy!

Jistoray

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

OK. We admit it. We’re a soft touch for new music. We just can’t help it, really, but if we hear something good, we just have to put it on for you! Enter Jistoray.

Jistoray (Carl Torgerson–Lead Vocals / Guitar, Donny Brummer–Bass / Vocals, and John Stilinovich–Drums) bills their self as a “power-folk-rock-funk” trio; their sound is full of melody and rhythm so we can go along just fine with their description. At any rate, they’ve come out with a new album, Hollywood, which we were lucky enough to have sent to us; we’ve been enjoying it quite a lot and want to share it with you!

We’re running the nifty cut Take My Heart from this album because it really, in our minds, captures the spirit of this album.

As always,
Enjoy!

Telling On Trixie

Sunday, August 19th, 2007

Notorious Liz has hooked us up with some wonderfully fresh new music yet again! Her latest selection for us is Telling On Trixie, a hot New York City act. Telling On Trixie is lead singer Derek Nicoletto and guitarist Brad Small; although they have different styles, their combined talent is awesome, indeed. On their self-titled debut (which we are running, of course!) their sounds range delightfully, and each track discovers something new.

We chose our favorite three songs to play for you: their new single Halfway Back To Sane, the very nice Orion’s Light and the absolutely haunting Your Silence. Your Silence is one of those songs that will stick with you, both for the powerful vision of the lyrics and the melody that provides the backdrop.

We’re really keen on Telling On Trixie and love their sound. Oh, and be sure to check out their video on Halfway Back To Sane on YouTube as well!

As always,
Enjoy!

Foxtail Somesault - Fathom

Friday, August 17th, 2007

Once again, Notorious Liz has done again and sent along some wonderful new music! And once again, we couldn’t wait to get it into our playlist for you!

We’ve added Divingboard by Foxtail Somersault from the new EP, Fathom. Although this is a little hard to describe, we would waffle all around and not really give you an answer. Still, we do know that we like it, a lot, and think that it makes a wonderfully fine addition. We certainly look forward to more from Foxtail Somersault.

As always,
Enjoy!

Sheryl Crow - The Globe Sessions

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

Why not, for no explicable reason, add a Sheryl Crow song today? We couldn’t think of a reason not to, so we did!

We’ve added the oddly upbeat There Goes The Neighborhood from her third album, The Globe Sessions. Now, there are more good tunes from this album, but we already run live versions, so we’re just adding this one (yes, count ‘em, one) song today.

As always,
Enjoy!

Audra Hardt - Superficial Superstar

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

Every now and then an album comes in that really, and we mean really, grabs our attention. Audra Hardt’s EP did exactly that. We put it our player, and we were completely taken aback from the raw energy and sound of her EP Superficial Superstar. There are only four songs on it (pity, because we wanted more), but we liked them all. Audrea Hardt has something to say, as well, and say it she does.

Her voice is full of raw energy, power, emotion, and feeling; as you listen you can just feel her singing to you, (yes, you). Her lyrics aren’t exactly fluffy and light, but that’s OK, because she is putting herself into these tunes and you’ll fall into them just as we did.

We like this EP so much, in fact, that we’re adding three of the four cuts from it: You Said, Think and Watch Me. We love the passion these tunes bring to our playlist. Audra is someone to watch, for sure, and we can’t wait for more of her tunes.

As always,
Enjoy!

Tempus - Got A Good Feeling

Friday, August 10th, 2007

We’ve got a great feeling about Tempus, that’s for sure. Tempus was our very first independent band that we featured here on Radio Free David; we’ve long adored their music and long thought they had a great sound. Back in our early days when our playlist was sparse, well, we played their tunes a lot and today, now that our playlist is not so sparse, well, we play their tunes a lot. They remain one of our favorite bands.

They’ve treated us right, too, and we were beyond excited to get our hot little hands on their brand new album: Got A Good Feeling. We’re delighted to be spinning some cuts from it (You Are Not Alone, Got A Good Feeling, and If I Could) for you! We have also replaced our existing version of Already Leaving with the cut from this album, as well. Keeping with their tradition, these songs are elegant, have a darn good tune, and rock right along. We think what these guys are doing is utterly fantastic, and this effort proves that out.

If you are anywhere close to Tempus, be sure to catch their show. It is one you don’t want to miss.

Thanks Rob and the rest of Tempus, for all of your support. Keep up the great music!

As always,
Enjoy!

Unplugged Margaret’s Daughter

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

We’re really happy to add some more Margaret’s Daughter into rotation today! They were kind enough to send along their interim album Simplicity… which is just great! This is totally unplugged and contains some of their favorite songs from their first album as well as some songs from their upcoming one; all in all, it is an awesome listen and the unplugged nature just lets their talent sparkle and shine.

We’re running the title cut Simplicity, as well as Charmless Young Man (we are especially fond of the beginning of this one) and Crazy. We like these cuts a lot, they fit into our format exceptionally well, and you can be assured you’ll be hearing them.

As always,
Enjoy!

The Alarm

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

We’ve got some nice new old music for you today! We’re going back to the early 80’s with The Alarm. The Alarm is part of the early 80’s wave of bands (some of whom we feature, such as The Call, Big Country, and The Waterboys), and, well, they looked the part too on stage. Still, their music is top-notch and well worth a listen. Even though The Alarm disbanded in 1992, their music is still poignant and still rocks.

So, from a listener suggestion, we’ve added in the tracks Spirit of ‘76, Rain In The Summertime and Sixty Eight Guns from their Standards album.

As always,
Enjoy!
