Boston (and a bonus Augustana)

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

As you know, we love to run brand new tunes here, and we are so delighted when we get that chance. Still, every now and then we like to take a trip in the archives and pull out some older music for you. Today is one of those days.

We happened to glance at Boston’s Walk On album and decided to give it some spins for you. Although Tom Schulz took seven (yes, seven) years to create this album it (remarkably) failed to produce a single hit. Still, there are some good tunes on this album and we’ve tossed them into our rotation for you. We’ve added I Need Your Love, Walk On (the middle bit of the Walk On Medley) and We Can Make It. Sure, they didn’t chart, but hey, it’s Boston!

And when putting Boston into our playlist, we realized there was another darn good Boston tune we should add, too. Specifically, we’ve added in Boston from Augustana. This is another great tune and one we’re delighted to play.

So, a good day for Boston, of a couple of different flavors.

As always,
Enjoy!

Junior

Friday, February 15th, 2008

We’re sure now she doesn’t sleep. Nosiree. Not a wink.

Notorious Liz and Toucan Cove have tossed the latest cool music our way and we’re running it for you! Junior is the band (made up of Kiley Bland, Steve Cox and Adam Hoffoss) and these guys are pumping out some straight up rock and roll. From their album Are We Famous Yet? we’re running the tune NASCAR Man (and three guesses what it might be about… the first two don’t count…however, we’re going to make you listen to know for sure. Hah. Yeah, we’re cruel) which will get you running.

We think you’ll like the beat, the groove and tunes Junior is doing. The entire album will have you moving, and we like it! These guys are out there performing their hearts out, and opening for some great acts (many of whom we run right here on Radio Free David, so you just know you’re going to love these guys!); if you can, be sure you catch their set. Just be ready to rock!

As always,
Enjoy!

Partlycloudy

Friday, February 8th, 2008

Does she ever sleep? We certainly don’t think so…

Notorious Liz has brought us the latest hot addition to our playlist: Partlycloudy. Hailing from around Louisville, Ky, they took the hard sounds typically found there and spun them into their own unique blend. The result is this hot little EP we have: Arms Your Weapons. We like this sound quite a lot, and think it adds some serious punch to our sound. So, we’re running Helpless which is anything but. Oh no.

And hey, you get this gem for only $7 from CD Baby. We think this is totally worth it! And if you get a chance to catch these guys live… we would!

As always,
Enjoy!

Radiohead

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

In Rainbows from Radiohead. Sure, it was an album released in an interesting way. And it made a ton of headlines for that, too. But, as you know, we’re all about the music here at Radio Free David, and we only put things in our playlist that we like. As it all turns out, there is a lot about In Rainbows we like. In it goes!

In our opinion, the tunes here are wonderful to listen to, but they certainly get better the more you listen to them. There is a lot going on in these pieces, and repeated listening is well paid off. The entire album is full of great songs, but we found four that really stood out for us: Weird Fishes/Arpeggi, All I Need, Bodysnatchers, and Jigsaw Falling Into Place (which, if you caught Radiohead on tour, was called “Open Pick”).

We are happy to be running In Rainbows, and supporting a fine effort by a fine group.

As always,
Enjoy!

Red Cavalry

Friday, February 1st, 2008

We’ve got some great new music for you today, courtesy of Notorious Liz (who always seems to come up with wonderful music for us)! We’re adding in Red Cavalry and their new album The Geography Of Nowhere.

Red Cavlary has been tearing it up on college radio with their single Anonymous (which we’ve added) and now they’re about ready to do it again with the cool number Where The Blood Runs From (which of course we’ve added!).

Brooklyn based Red Cavalry is Joshua Gelfand, Jay Stanton, and Mike Caruso, and although their name is pretty new (they were originally called Masters of the Lunaverse), these guys have been rocking for a while now. And with this sound, they will stay around for a while, too. We’re happy to have their sound here on the Radio Free David!

As always,
Enjoy!
