The Datsuns / Grand Duchy

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

We’re doubling down with a double shot of double goodness for you today, courtesy of Tim over at Rocket Science. He knows good music, and knows we like good music and we’re happy to runs these tunes for you.

First up of Grand Duchy (Frank Black, really…he’s back!) and the single Black Suit from their new album Petits Fours. This tune has a wonderful, solid driving beat to it and it will certainly get you up and moving. This is a great tune and one we’ve already listened to a bunch.

Next up is The Datsuns and their tune So Long. This high-energy song really caught our attention and it is just one of those melodies that hang out in your head long after it is done playing.

We’re excited to keep up the new music for you!

As always,
Enjoy!

Soak - Turning Tomorrow

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

As you know, we adore new music and when we receive really good new music, well, that just makes us happy. Soak has made us very, very happy… and they will make you happy, too! Soak has a really great sound–musically, the tunes are very well done, and they tend to groove right along and carry you away with them on their journey. Their lyrics fit well and we like the stories they are telling. All tolled, Soak is simply an awesome listen!

From their new album Turning Tomorrow we’ve added not one, not two, but three tracks! The cool tune She Don’t Know is getting some good airplay, and we like it. We also like the title cut Turning Tomorrow and I personally like City Heartache, so in those go, too. We’ll be giving those tunes lots of spins!

As always,
Enjoy!

Lohio - History, The Destroyer

Friday, April 24th, 2009

What do you do when you don’t have a recording studio? Lohio had this question and they answerered by building their own in a garage. And what do you do when it is all built? Record in it, of course! And then what do you do with the recording… well, that’s easy. You wait for us to play it… and that’s just what we are doing!

Lohio’s new album, History, The Destroyer, is now runinng for you. We’re spinning the tune Modern Days and we think it is a great tune! The whole album has some great tunes and we heartily recommend it.

As always,
Enjoy!

Three Legged Fox - Not As Far

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

Every now and then some sends us an album and we listen to it, and think to ourselves, “hey, that’s pretty good.” Some of these we think you would like and we put those on the air for you. Some of these we aren’t all that crazy about, and those do not end up on the air (we do hold true to Radio Free format, after all). But every now and then something comes to us that makes us go Wow, Wow, Wow, Wow. Guess I just spoiled the surprise of what this post is about, eh?

Yeah. Three Legged Fox is back and back in a wonderfully cool way. Not As Far represents the second album of theirs (but we are running three. Isn’t that cool?) and that just makes us so happy! We here at Radio Free David love these guys–their sound and music is completely fantastic. If you are anywhere close to the Philadelphia area (and for Three Legged Fox that means “anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere”) we suggest that you stop by and catch one of thier shows. There is an incredible energy there–their Live at Grapestreet album remains one of our favorites.

So, yeah. We’re happy. We’re excited. We’ve got the volume WAY UP and this album is responsible for us helping the economy by purchasing new speakers. Again. The same will happen for you, so don’t say you weren’t warned.

We’re running three cuts from this jewel: Away, I Believe, and the title cut Not As Far. But really, the whole album is an outstanding effort. We like it.

By the way… if you’re still reading this, you may well be one of Three Legged Foxes really awesome fans… we appreciate your support and listening to Radio Free David. And you know who you are. Especially if your initials are “KW”. And yeah, I read the liner notes. Thank you all for your requests and listening!

As always,
Enjoy!

As always,
Enjoy!

Telling On Trixie - Ugly, Broke & Sober

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

They’re back and they’re back in some serious style!

That’s right! Telling On Trixie, one of our favorite artists, is back with another awesome album–Ugly, Broke & Sober. This album is a very, very solid effort: the tunes flow nicely, make your toes tap (always a plus with us), and demand some attention. We’ve been listening to this album for a little while now (which means since we got it) and we are so happy to share it with you. So, we’re running Shooting in 60, a cool tune, just for you!

Telling On Trixie is a great group and one we heartily recommend!

As alaways,
Enjoy!
