The Glamorus Youth - EP

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

Thanks (and a BIG thanks!) to Notorious Liz, we’ve got a wonderful new tune for you today!

We’re spinning Feel Like I Feel from The Glamorus Youth and their new EP called EP. It’s a great tune–catchy, with a very good beat, and nice hooks… your toes will be tapping all on their own, that’s for sure. And the whole EP is a good one, too… five songs that are great to listen to and keep you moving. We’re liking these guys–a lot–and think they make a great addition to our playlist. We don’t know how to describe them, really, except to say that they are a ton of fun to listen to–something we recommend you do right now!

As always,
Enjoy!

Suddyn - Dark Lights

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

“Can you whisper the words you want to make me believe?”

We believe. Oh yeah, we really believe in Suddyn and their most wonderful tunes–they’ve whispered the right words to us! Linda over at OpalStar went way out of her way to make sure we had their latest EP in our hands: Dark Lights. And, just like their other ones, this one is really, really good. Containing four tunes, we have selected Holding Up The Backdrop and Side Arm for you.

Holding Up The Backdrop is an excellent effort: it’s good with a good beat, cool hooks, and captures your attention from start to end–it is a very, very listenable (and the sort of stutter beat in there works quite well) From the soaring vocals, to the solid musicianship this works well. Side Arm is a little different, and yet, it exemplifies what we try to do here… find good music that we love and play it for you. It starts off with just a piano (we’re suckers for that, you know) and builds on that throughout the tune–by the end it is really rolling and then tapers back down “just so.” Haunting words accompany the melody (and yes, the line we opened this post with is from Side Arm) and, well, this song will certainly move you.

Oh yes. We believe. And so will you. We really love these guys!

As always,
Enjoy!

The Jir Project - Keep It Flowin’

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

We’re suckers for new music…tried and true suckers. And you don’t have to be on a big label (or ANY label), play big venues, or have an elaborate show for us to take a liking to you. You just have to have good music. Such is exactly the case for The Jir Project.

We ran into Jir a while ago in downtown Albuquerque–there he was up on the stage with his guitar, and that guitar was singing. It was sweet, powerful, really moving and he had an extraordinary sound. A couple of weeks ago we caught his show and once again we were struck by this talented musician. It was him, a guitar, and some of his friends up on a small stage. And once again that guitar sang for us… a small crowd was there when he started, but a large crowd was there by the time he was done, and the spell he put on the place was something to behold and be a part of. Jir simply gets up on the stage, plugs in his guitar and the next thing you know the house lights are coming up for some reason and you are sad because the music stopped. We see a lot of shows, and very few of them move us like Jir’s did. He plays for the love of playing, and that shows through. And when it is solo time, he heads off into his own world (and we’re right there with him) and the magic truly happens.

What? Did you think we wouldn’t run him for you? Of course we are! He was kind enough to give us a CD (yeah, like we gave him a choice in the matter) and so we’ve got a cut for you. Remember, this guy is out there making the music happen for the love of music, so the CD might not be mastered as well as a group with the means to do so, but the music shines through despite that. From his EP, Keep It Flowin’, we’re running the title cut, Keep It Flowin’

This is what music is all about! Heart and soul, passion and love of it. And The Jir Project has that and so much more! If you’re anywhere around Albuquerque when he is playing, stop by and catch his show. You’ll understand what we mean by making his guitar sing then.

Keep it Flowin’!

As always,
Enjoy

Asbury - Under The…

Friday, May 8th, 2009

Friday again (funny how those come around once a week, isn’t it? Luckily, they do) and time for new music. Today we’ve got some great indie rock, courtesy of Asbury.

These guys are hard to describe, but “haunting” comes to mind. We’re running the cut Covered In Acrylic from their Under The… album. Not exactly mellow, not exactly heavy, but it is exactly engaging and a very good listen. We appreciate good music and so we appreciate Asbury.

We’ll note, too, that their CD comes with a honest-to-goodness booklet and we appreciate the small touches. The booklet is well done, has lyrics and information and we really like that. Too many folks just toss in a single sheet to fill in the space. Funny thing is that the entire album is filled with small musical touches and it makes for a complete album, and worth your time to listen to.

As always,
Enjoy!

Mighty Fairly - Big Words And Power Chords

Friday, May 1st, 2009

Big Words And Power Chords indeed… but we think it is just Big Music around these parts.

We’re spinning new music for you today… Falling To Pieces by Mighty Fairly from their great album Big Words And Power Chords. We like these guys–they’ve got a wonderful sound, good music (big music!) and a good vibe. This whole album is a treat to listen to, and we recommend you treat yourself by listening to it here (which, by the way, we’re delighted to help you out with)

OK. Back to the music!

As always,
Enjoy!
