Trey Johnson

Friday, August 28th, 2009

We are a 100% Independent Radio Station and we’re true to our “Radio Free” moniker. That is, we play what we like, when we want to. We are beholden to no master, big nor small, and the music we play for you is for you, the listener, and not for some advertiser (although…advertising money would be nice, make no doubt about it).

This means that every now and then we will bring you a song for no other reason than we like it, and is very  much the case today with Trey Johnson. From his upcoming album Mount Pelee we are running The Radio. Why? Because it is a very cool song, and we like it, and we LOVE the sheer irony of it.

Naturally, being the teases that we are, we’re not going to tell you just what the irony bit is–but we’ll tell you that it is easy to figure out if you listen to the lyrics. See, Trey? Sometimes it does happen…

When we heard this song it absolutely caught our attention. Although it is a little slower than the fare we usually run, it is still darn good and so in it goes. Oh yeah, it’s good to be independent. Thanks to Erv at Idol Records for getting this to us!

As always,
Enjoy!

Here Holy Spain

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Time to pep things up a bit today and Here Holy Spain fits that bill perfectly. Our friends over at Idol Records sent them along to us and we’re liking these guys. Here Holy Spain hails from the Dallas, TX area, and they are tearing it up over there. Made up of Wes Todd (guitars, vocals), Erica Guagliardi (bass) amd Patrick Ethan (drums) the three of them create a sound that belies them being a trio.

From their album Maniac we’re running Trouble Is. This tune jumps right in and keeps on moving. It’s got a great feel to it and it will completely get you going–sure, it is a heavy tune but it’s pretty darn cool. We think this makes a fine addition to our playlist and we’re happy to have them.

Thanks to Idol Records!

As always,
Enjoy!

Electric Valentine

Friday, August 21st, 2009

Get your dancing shoes on because it is time to move! We’re running Electric Valentine today and they rather upbeat number Beat Drop from their new album Automatic. They don’t drop a beat and they don’t drop a note and you will be up and moving until you drop. Yeah. Perhaps a little departure from our usual, but we think you’ll enjoy Electric Valentine’s sound.

This entire album starts out strong and never lets up. It’s a high-energy listen, so be prepared for that. And…we like that!

As always,
Enjoy!

Little Black Dress - Snow In June

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

We’re keeping up the great new music for you… today we’re releasing a new album by Little Black Dress called Snow In June. These guys are really great and have a very nice sound… we’ve been caught up listening to them all day and they are responsible for us losing a whole lot of time. But, that’s OK, because there isn’t a better way to lose time!

We’re running the track Robin for you and we know that you’ll lose time, too. We don’t know exactly how to classify Little Black Dress, other than under “darn good tunes.” These guys know how to put music together; it is complex, layered, and very, very listenable. They are quickly becoming one of our favorites.

As always,
Enjoy!

Flea Market Poets

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

We really dig it when folks do their own thing… you know, like record music they like, without worry so much if it conforms to a certain something or other? It will come as no surprise to you when we tell you that today we are digging Flea Market Poets. This guys really know how to create an album. Yes, album. Songs they can do, but in this case, they also pulled of the trick of a very listenable entire album. We are seriously liking them for this!

From their new Dirty Days album, we’ve selected the title track Dirty Days as well as the tune Black Heart. Without a doubt these are two of our favorite tracks and we’ve been hooked on them. The sound is great…and we know that you’ll love these guys as much as we do.

Flea Market Poets. We recommend listening now.

As always,
Enjoy!

Selon Recliner

Friday, August 7th, 2009

They’re back! This time we return to our favorite New Zealand artist as we continue around the world.

We have always had a particular affection for Selon Recliner, and imagine our utter delight when they showed up in our mailbox with their new release The Orchid Door! And just like their previous effort, this one is just. way. cool. They have that same effect, replete with hauntig vocals, excellent musicianship and wonderful lyrics. We put the album in and were just memorized by it. We’ve selected Swan to run for you.

These guys are really good with good music. Even their CD package is awesome: it is red (really red), shiny, a tri-fold and feels great in your hand…meaning that from the moment you open up their work you are impressed and by the time the music is coming out of the speakers you are just in love with them. We are, that’s for sure.

And we can’t wait to hear what is next from them!

As always,
Enjoy!
