That word just jumped out at me as I was preparing to write this post about Jamie Lynn Noon and her A Moment To Break EP.

The music is polished. It’s really good–very, very good–and after repeated listening, I am still as enchanted by her tunes as I was when I first heard them. The music itself is very well done, and the production quality is very well done. Polished. So, too, are her lyrics. They’re deep and meaningful and aren’t there as fluff. Her delivery of them is exquisite. Her soaring, powerful voice blends perfectly with the music making the entire song a more than wonderful listen. In the places where she opens up, the power in her voice really shines through, and Jamie Lynn Noon can sing. Oh yes she can.

And her production is polished, too. She has a presence everywhere. She has a MySpace page, and she pays attention to it. She has a FaceBook Fan page, and she pays attention to that. She responds promptly and quickly, politely and professionally (but very warmly, too! Her personality shows through everywhere and she sparkles as well as she can sing). In short, she really goes all out in what she does, and that shows through exceptionally well.

Jamie Lynn Noon is someone to watch. Great music, incredible voice, and an awesome talent. We’re so happy to be running her tunes Second Of A Spark and the title cut A Moment To Break here on Radio Free David. And we can’t wait to hear what she is up to next.

As always,
Enjoy!

And they rock really, really hard. And we like that.

We’re all about fresh new music–as you know, we’re not beholden to anyone, and we are truly “radio free”. We play what we like, when we want it, and the only rules we play by(*) our own. This means, as a practical upshot, that our playlist is very unique to us and reflects our tastes in music (as opposed to some corporate overlord only interested in a bottom line). Which gets us back to Zamza… we like them!

And so we’re playing them. From their new release, Manga Rock, we’ve selected I’ll Give You All and America as our favorites to spin for you.

Zamza is new here in the US, but they are plenty big in Japan–plus they’re on a worldwide tour as well. When they reached out to us and asked us if we were interested in running them, our response was very, very easy. Their sound is wonderfully distinctive: great guitar work, great beats (our toes are still tapping from the first time we heard them) and just really great tunes. It won’t take long for them to be hitting the charts here in the US, and we here at Radio Free David are really proud to be spinning them. Once you hear them, you’ll know why we are so keen on them. So, sit back, turn up the volume and

As always,
Enjoy!
david

(*) Yeah. And the DMCA. We play by those rules. And the copyright rules–we totally respect those, too. And pretty much the good rules. Sigh. There goes our bad boy image for the day. But hey, it was fun for the first part of the post, wasn’t it?

We’re all about, and I do mean all about, bringing you new music, fresh sounds, and emerging artists. We spend a lot of time listening, listening and then doing some more listening, looking for just the right sound for you. We are very careful about what we select for you, and there is a lot of music that never makes it into our airwaves.

Quite often, folks write us about their music, asking us to play it. We politely listen to it, and most of the time, we politely decline to play it. Sometimes, the music is good, but the production isn’t. Sometimes, neither are very good. Sometimes we just don’t like it. And sometimes, someone like Charlie comes along.

Charlie Ranucci emailed us last week and asked to play his tunes. Figuring it was just like so many requests we receive, we took a listen. But, the tunes he sent us caught our attention. We like them. We like them A LOT, in fact. And so, here they are, on the air, for you.

To be perfectly fair, Charlie’s physical media isn’t as…polished…as you might find on a regular label. Take, for example, his artwork which looks a little unorthodox. But, here is what he said about it:

“Attached is the artwork I am using. It may seem a little strange, but I promised my little cousin (who made it when she was very sick) that I would use it, its on all my music sites.”

And that just absolutely sealed the deal for us. This guy is warm andgenuine–and his music is really very, very good. Sure, it doesn’t have the polish and pizazz that other folks have, but that’s OK. His music, his warmth and he himself more than makes up for that.

So. Here you go. Charlie Ranucci, with his cuts Here I Am and Radiate. And here’s to great music, whenever and however it finds us.

As always,
Enjoy!
It’s full of cool sounds, great hooks and very wonderful music. We’re really happy to be running the lead-off tune That Mountain Yonder from this gem. The sounds on this album would remind you of the 70’s (and with good reason: they use lots of acoustics interspersed among the electrics stuff, with that certain lyrical bent that reminds one of that particular decade), but that is not to say that this is old music. Far, far from it. Instead, their music is much more timeless and you’ll find yourself listening to it many times.

With a band title like “The Literary Greats” you mind wonder if they live up to that name. No worries–they do, and they’re Great.

As always,
Enjoy!
